KIT UGR <19: controlling glare in offices

Office lighting design involves more than achieving the required illuminance on the work plane. Luminaire placement, luminance and light distribution within the field of view directly affect users’ visual comfort. In offices, meeting rooms and workstations with screens, where visual tasks continue for much of the day, effective glare control helps reduce eye strain and fatigue associated with prolonged work. Addressing this criterion from the earliest stages of a project makes it possible to create visually comfortable workplaces and meet the demands of professional lighting design.

UGR <19: controlling light where it matters

UGR (Unified Glare Rating) is used to assess discomfort glare produced by an indoor lighting system. In workplaces, controlling this parameter is particularly relevant when luminaires fall within users’ field of view or when people work at screens for extended periods. To meet this need, Lluria has developed KIT UGR <19, an optical assembly for indoor linear lighting designed to achieve UGR ≤19 in accordance with the criteria of UNE-EN 12464-1 for indoor workplaces. It is particularly suited to offices, meeting rooms and screen workstations.

Optics designed for visual comfort

The key is to control how light is emitted. KIT UGR <19 combines individual 50° optics with an anti-glare louvre to direct the luminous flux and limit direct view of the light source. The assembly includes optics, louvre, PCB and integrated driver, and arrives ready for installation. Its optical control is complemented by specifications for professional projects: CRI >90, colour temperatures of 3000 K and 4000 K, black finish, IP20 protection, and ON-OFF or DALI versions. Luminous efficacy reaches 160 lm/W at 3000 K and 170 lm/W at 4000 K, with a five-year warranty.

Two lengths for creating lines of light

The two available lengths, 280 and 560 mm, allow the luminaire layout to be matched more precisely to the dimensions and requirements of each project. Combining both lengths makes it easier to create continuous lines of light with UGR <19 control, maintaining uniform distribution and adapting the solution to the architecture instead of relying on predetermined lengths.

The 280 mm versions provide 7 W and a luminous flux of 1,104 lm at 3000 K or 1,173 lm at 4000 K. The 560 mm versions provide 14 W and 2,208 lm at 3000 K or 2,346 lm at 4000 K. This modularity allows the line of light to be sized more precisely according to the characteristics of the space and the project’s lighting needs.

One solution, different ways to integrate it

For architects, interior designers and lighting designers, a key advantage of KIT UGR <19 is that glare control does not dictate a single luminaire type. The kit is compatible with Lluria’s ST12, ST18, ST36, ST55 and ST67 profiles, allowing different installation requirements to be met within one project. Suspended, wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted and recessed installations can thus share the same optical solution and a consistent appearance. The catalogue presents the integration options for all five profiles and their configurations, making selection easier according to the architectural needs of each space.

Visual comfort with linear lighting

Glare control is essential in workplace lighting, yet it need not restrict the integration of light into architecture. Linear lighting can meet visual comfort requirements while retaining the continuity, precision and flexibility characteristic of this type of solution.

With KIT UGR <19, Lluria applies this approach in a modular solution that is ready to install and can be adapted to different profiles, configurations and mounting types. It offers a technical response to glare control, allowing professionals to continue designing with lines of light wherever visual comfort is a priority.
