The UPC School’s Master in Lighting Design and Lluria at the Estudi Antoni Arola

Estudi Arola opened its doors to the students of the UPC School’s continuing formation Master in Lighting Design, offering them a real environment for lighting creation and research. The visit allowed them to observe and understand how light is constructed through design, experimentation, and dialogue with space. For the students, this experience served as an initial immersion into a professional studio where intuition and sensibility become essential design tools.

La luz como herramienta

The session offered an opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of how light shapes perception and transforms volumes, colours, and textures. The hands-on practice with filters, diffusers, and different lighting technologies, combined with explanations from the Lluria team, allowed students to delve deeper into the master’s module dedicated to the types, properties and uses of light, demonstrating how each technical decision influences the project’s final atmosphere.

See, touch, connect

Throughout the visit, students explored Lluria’s linear systems -profiles, diffusers, and led stripes- and examined their role and applications in architectural and interior design projects. They also received led stripes, control systems, and a power supply to incorporate in their quarterly project, which focuses on luminaire design.

Material and process

The samples provided encouraged experimentation with different finishes and light qualities. This practical phase made it possible to contrast what they had learned during the visit and understand how each component is essential in defining a lighting intention. Direct contact with the materials opened new reflections on the expressive potential of light within a project.

Learning by doing

The visit to Estudi Arola highlighted the importance of connecting academic training with professional practice. For Lluria, collaborating with UPC School’s Master in Lighting Design means supporting a new generation of designers who seek to observe, think, and design light with intention. An enriching day that strengthened relationships and opened new paths for exploring light from a more reflective, conscious, and professional perspective.
