Located on the island of Lanzarote, the new Arrecife Gran Hotel & Spa has opened its doors with a fresh new look. It’s in a building that, due to its scale, location and design, has become a landmark on the island’s coastline. Its unique location right next to the beach in Arrecife makes it the ideal place to enjoy the light of the sunset, a magical moment that Maraba Studio has managed to capture and enhance through its lighting project.
Programmed lighting
The crown jewel of the renovation project of this impressive five-star hotel is located on floor number two out of its total seventeen floors: an indoor-outdoor swimming pool and recreational area from where you can gaze out at the horizon under a beautiful glass dome. It’s a meeting place where locals and tourists can now enjoy a delicious meal or an after-work drink under soft, dynamic, programmed lighting that adapts to the different times of the day.
Visual lure
This fascinating, translucent space arouses the curiosity of everyone who walks around it. It’s a visual trap that entices you to enter its doors from a distance. The aesthetics and interior design are inspired by the ocean, with the wooden beams that enclose this space being the perfect place to subtly integrate lighting and Lluria’s linear LED systems.
Lighting strategies
The project was carried out under two lighting strategies that coexist with each other:
On the one hand, designers Cristina and Paula Martínez Abad managed to capture the beautiful sunset and bring it into the space through dynamic Tunable White lighting that changes colour temperature to the rhythm of the sunset. On the other, once the sun has gone down the glass dome is transformed into a display of RGB colours, with a final scene of a deep blue sky full of shooting stars that run and flash along the dome.
Programmed scenes
Lluria’s Tunable White linear system allows new and different lighting scenes to be created and programmed to improve the user experience in the different types of events held in this space, whether they are conferences, corporate meetings or celebration parties. In addition to the unique staging of the sunset, the rest of the spaces such as bars, entrances and routes have been solved with diffuse lighting to avoid any type of discomfort and glare, making this exclusive viewpoint an ideal environment for relaxation, leisure and enjoyment.
Project response
The golden light of this hotel that breathes natural and warm tones is truly enveloping. The successful lighting project already has the approval and satisfaction of both its first guests and local islanders.
